Volume
TermUpdated 12 Sept 2026
Session volume is shares traded today. Average volume is the mean of the last 20 sessions. Both are share counts, not lots.
Formula · avg_volume_20d
avg volume = mean of the last 20 session share counts
What SGX prints
SGX's public board labels Vol (000s) as the number of securities traded today, in thousands. That is a share count, scaled for the table. It is not the number of board lots.
What we store
The SGX securities feed carries two volume fields. v is traded shares so far this session. vl is board-lot contracts. We store v on the stock row as Volume (session). If v is missing we fall back to lots times board lot, default 100. We did this after the banks once read about a thousand times too low when the lot field was treated as shares.
Avg Daily Volume is the 20-session mean of historic daily share counts from the charts feed. Quotes never overwrite it.
How to read it
A session print far above the 20-day average means more stock changed hands than usual. It does not tell you who bought or sold, or whether the next print is up. A quiet counter can print a last price on a handful of shares. That last is still the last. It is just a thin one.
Live on featured names
Same SGX rows as the stock pages, fetched when you opened this page. A dash means we do not have that input.
